So...

So I have been newly inspired…and all too often reminded that I am a failure as a blog-writer, in that I don’t keep up with it. So I’m trying to do better as a person!

*Jeff – if you read this, I have not forgotten that I am doing a piece on you. I promise*

A few nights ago, I had my first poetic performance. I was nervous as all hell, shakin and what not but it was amazing. The acts I had to follow were truly inspirational and so very talented. And it made me happy to know that real thinkers and creative spirits do exist in Athens. With any luck, I’ll be back on my writing grind in the near future…so be on the lookout for ya girl!

Now, it also brought to mind that current state of hip-hop. I know that this may be a tried topic but it’s on my mind. If you know me, you know I can appreciate a fye beat and sub-par lyrics with the best of them. But why is this particular brand being looked on as inspirational, world changing material? By all means, appreciate the music, but appreciate for what it really is. Every rapper is NOT an MC. This has also been on my mind since Soulja Boy came to UGA and people lost they damn minds. Here is my thing, Soulja Boy is a child tryna make a lil change for him and his momma. Nothing more, nothing less. He makes club bangers and everybody, white and black alike, can dig him. Take him for just that…a kid tryna make a dollar. I understand that a lot of people were upset that he was the performer chosen during Soul Week but looking at it from a business standpoint, Union chose someone that appealed to everybody. And realistically, you were never gonna see that money again anyway. It wasn’t like if he didn’t come they were gonna redistribute that $28,000 back to us. If he really bothered you, you shouldn’t have been in the front row doing the Bird Walk. Ok, I’m off my lil soap box on that one, just wanted to speak on it briefly. I could go on and on and on but I’m gonna go ahead and end here.

I’ll be returning soon…hopefully. Kthanxbi
